It is the best thing ever to do your own granola cereal at home and being able to control what goes into it. A lot of the supermarket granola cereals have dried fruit or other ingredients in them which might not be suitable for some people. Below is a recipe which I tried and can guarantee its success.
Main ingredients:
- 1.5-2 cups whole-grain oats.
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/8 cup brown sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 3/4 cup chopped almonds (optional-highly recommended)
- 1/4 cup bran (optional-high fiber)
Other extras:
- Chia seeds
- Raw seeds
- Raisons, dried cranberries or other dried fruits.
- Chocolate chips
- Cinnamon
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 280 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large bowl mix the dry ingredients ( sugar, oats, almonds, salt, bran) and whisk the oil and honey in a separate bowl (keep the dried fruits aside until the end).
- Tip: Use the same measuring cup for the oil and honey. Use it for oil first then honey, which will then pour down quickly without sticking to the walls of the cup.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix them thoroughly till they are all covered equally.
- Spread the mixture evenly in one layer in a baking pan which has been lined with a baking sheet for easy removal of granola and easy cleaning.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes. Every 10 minutes toss them for even cooking.
- Once they become golden in color take them out and add the dried fruits to them. They will harden as they cool.
- Toss them few times as they cool so that they don’t stick to each other or to the baking sheet.
- Store in an air-tight container to maintain their freshness. Enjoy 🙂
